Baltazar “Los Árabes de México”, is a retro-but-not-on-purpose locale in the centro offering tacos ‘árabes’, the precursors to al pastor brought to Mexico by Lebanese immigrants in the early 20th century. Pork, which replaced the original lamb, is condimented simply and vertically grilled on a standing ‘trompo’ over coals; they can be ordered in corn or flour tortillas, or in flat pita bread and augmented with picante green or red salsas or minty yogurt.
