Takeout/delivery in Mexico City Part II

As the pandemic becomes a stark reality in Mexico, we who are able to hunker down for the long run—and I’m afraid this one seems like it may outlast that long running New York show The Fantasticks—continue to face the challenge of how to feed ourselves well. While many restaurants have had to shut their doors (sadly laying off many workers), some are offering excellent special menus for delivery or curb-side pick up (see previous post). And there are several options for delivery of high quality produce and groceries.

A pozole from DM-III

DM-III is a start up initiative put together by Sebastián Manterola, who with this writer has cooked a series of themed pop-up dinners which are currently on hold but to which we will return when the time is right. He offers an affordable menu of Mexican comfort dishes for pickup or delivery from his Colonia Roma kitchen. The chef assures that “we are taking the utmost care to provide safe, clean sanitary food at all levels, from preparation, packaging to delivery.” He adds that “ as part of our initiative, and apart from the food delivery service, we are providing employment to people who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic by selling prepared food to them at cost so that they can re-sell in their neighbourhoods at a small profit.” This is a business worth supporting.

The kitchen is located Tonalá 131 , across from Máximo Bistro in the Roma. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 1 – 6 p.m. See menu above; to place an order, call or text 55 4144 1002

For demanding do-it-youselfers several purveyors are delivering high quality produce and groceries.

An aquatic option from Ingredienta

Ingredienta is an online “tienda gourmet”, the offshoot of Sargazo, Mexico´s premier purveyor of seafood, this shop (whose real-life locale opened a few months ago in Lomas at Prado Nte, 565 (tel. 55 6723 3700), can deliver such goodies as fresh clams, oysters, mussels and fish, organic produce, meats and artesan dairy products. See webpage, above.

Manzo (Guanajuato 224, Roma, tel. 55 7187 6954) is a small restaurant normally offering eclectic lunch menus; while in-house service isn’t currently available, the owners are putting together food baskets for pick up or delivery. See below:

And, last but not least, our wonderful weekly outdoor markets are hanging by a thread. Support the Tuesday market in la Condesa by ordering for delivery. Call or text Manuel @ 55 3319 4283
